๐Ÿ”’ The short version: We do not record, store, or monitor your screen sharing sessions. All video is peer-to-peer and never touches our servers.

What Screencastr does

Screencastr is a browser-based screen sharing tool. When you share your screen, video and audio travel directly between you and your viewers via WebRTC โ€” a peer-to-peer protocol. Our servers only handle the signaling handshake (exchanging connection details) so both parties can find each other. Once connected, we are out of the loop entirely.

What we do NOT collect

What we do collect

We collect only basic, anonymous usage metrics to understand how the service is being used:

These counters contain no identifying information. We cannot trace them back to any individual, device, or session.

Signaling data

To establish a peer-to-peer connection, our signaling server briefly processes WebRTC session descriptions (SDP) and ICE candidates. This data is transient โ€” it exists only in memory for the duration of the handshake and is never written to disk or logged.

Third-party services

Screencastr is hosted on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may collect standard infrastructure-level data (such as request counts and error rates) as part of their platform. Please refer to Cloudflare's Privacy Policy for details.

WebRTC connections may route through public STUN servers (Google's stun.l.google.com) to negotiate connectivity. This is a standard protocol and does not expose session content.

Cookies

Screencastr uses a small number of cookies for basic, anonymous analytics. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, or fingerprinting.

The cookies we set may include:

We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any third-party advertising networks. Any analytics we run are self-hosted and produce only aggregate, non-identifiable data.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so will not affect the core screen sharing functionality.

Children's privacy & safety

Screencastr is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 is using this service, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

The predatory targeting or exploitation of minors is strictly prohibited and a violation of our Terms of Service. Any such activity will be reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and relevant law enforcement immediately.

Because Screencastr sessions are peer-to-peer and private, we strongly encourage users to share their session PIN only with people they know and trust.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change what data we collect, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. We will not make changes that reduce your privacy without clear notice.
